Davis Crane Service
1920s-1950s: Early Aspirations
- Raymond Davis grew up on a farm in Old Glory, TX.
- Raymond left home at age 12 in search of a life away from farming, hitchhiking to Dallas.
- Raymond became a crane operator for Dallas Transfer.
1960s-1970s: Founding and First years
- 1962 – Davis Crane founded by Raymond Davis and his nephew, Robert Davis, with the assistance of Jimmy Sullivan of Sullivan Transfer in Dallas, TX.
- Operated under Sullivan Transfer while paying off first two cranes, with a focus on construction, HVAC, and power companies.
- Expanded fleet to 10 cranes.
1970s-1980s: Growth and Market Leadership
- 1973 – Relocated to Irving, TX as Davis Motor Crane Service, Inc.
- Current logo designed by Raymond’s wife.
- Grew steadily through reputation for high reliable service and clean, well-maintained equipment.
- Operated the largest crane in Dallas with a 50-ton capacity.
1980s-1990s: Next Generation of Leadership
- 1984 – Acquired McIntire Equipment Company, Davis Crane’s first acquisition.
- Grew fleet to 30–45 cranes with an expanded workforce of around 50 employees.
- After working in every role within the company, Dennis, the youngest of Raymond’s 10 children, was hand-picked by his father as his successor. He officially took over in 1995.
- Like his father, Dennis adopted a philosophy of valuing employees as assets.
2000s: Continued Growth and Expansion
- 2008 – Acquired Crocker Crane, the second major acquisition.
- Many family-run businesses, wanting to avoid private equity buyouts, called on Dennis in order to sell to Davis Crane, a company that would value their employees.
- Expanded to 10 companies: nine crane companies and a parts and service company with an Ohio branch.
2010s Established Excellence
- Operates 165 cranes and 230 trucks, making Davis Crane one of the largest family-owned and operated crane companies in Texas.
- Serves across Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, Abilene, Sherman, and the surrounding regions.
- Diversifying service offerings to include generator and air conditioner storage and delivery.
2020s: A Continuation of Excellence
- With 165 cranes and 230 trucks in operation, Davis Crane ranks among the largest family-owned crane companies in Texas.
- The company extends its services throughout Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, Abilene, Sherman, and nearby areas.
- It is expanding its services to encompass the storage and delivery of generators and air conditioners.
